About Us

Dorset House is proud to be the oldest private prep school in West Sussex and indeed, one of the oldest in the country and we can trace our roots back to the 18th century. Our 2018 ISI Inspection found that, ‘The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent’ and ‘The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent’.

The school moved to its current site on the banks of the River Arun, in West Sussex – right in the heart of the South Downs National Park over 50 years ago and children can enjoy the wonderful setting with boarding and dining in The Manor whilst being taught in modern, purpose built classrooms.

Alumni include comedian Harry Enfield; actor Ed Speleers (Eragon and Downton Abbey); Jockey Harry Bentley and F1 driver Jolyon Palmer.

If you would like to have a private tour of the school, visitors are always welcome by appointment.  Please call 01798 831456 to arrange or email sobrien@dorsethouseschool.com or call for details of our next Open Morning.

Our pupils go on to wide range of senior schools both locally and nationally.  In recent years, these have included: Ardingly, Bedales, Brighton College, Bryanston, Canford, Hurst, Lancing, Marlborough, Pangbourne College, Seaford College, Shrewsbury, Wellington, Winchester and Worth.
