WELCOME TO Dorset House School
PART OF THE LANCING COLLEGE FAMILY OF SCHOOLS
Welcome
At Dorset House, we aim to provide a magical prep school experience for our pupils in an environment where children are engaged, enthused and inspired. We are often described as a greenhouse not a hot house and we find that pupils grow in confidence in our high challenge/low threat atmosphere.
Our committed and talented staff foster close links between home and school and we know every child well, meaning that we are aware of any successes achieved or issues they are facing.
Our optional flexi and weekly boarding for our Prep children, promote independence.
Happy, confident – not arrogant young people, who can relate to and communicate with others – Dorset House children often win awards and scholarships to senior schools and regularly going on to hold positions of responsibility.
Prospective parents often comment on the warmth of this school and if that is something which is important to your family, please call to make an appointment to visit us. We look forward to meeting you.

It was a bit of a squash and a squeeze but Mrs Metzger managed to fit her class, (Year 2), into the Headmistress` study for a story session between PE and lunch!
Mrs Sutherland-Booth read them `Oddly`, - a tale which explores themes of self-discovers, acceptance and the importance of friendship.
The children really enjoyed the story but were possibly more enchanted by all the new and exciting additions to the head`s study - especially the @lego flower arrangement!
Year 3 enjoyed what was, for many of them, their first experience witnessing a symphony orchestra in action.
@chichesterft they saw the Southern Pro Music perform a child friendly programme which included Strauss, Albinoni and Tchaikovsky, as well as Disney favourites and some audience participation. The compere was also a magician, so what’s not to like!?
Never mind the weather…
While most of us were staying firmly inside during yesterday’s storm, our Year 8 Geographers were travelling to the Jurassic Coast for a three day residential field trip. They are working with tutors from @leesonhouse studying coastal erosion and deposition. We were so pleased to see some blue sky in the photos they sent back to DH.
Our next Open Morning will be in March 2026...
...but visitors are always welcome. Please call the school to arrange an appointment (01798 831456)
