WELCOME TO Dorset House School
"...this is a school that really does empower"
(Tatler Schools Guide)

Welcome

At Dorset House, we aim to provide a magical prep school experience for our pupils in an environment where children are engaged, enthused and inspired.  We are often described as a greenhouse not a hot house and we find that pupils grow in confidence in our high challenge/low threat atmosphere.

Our committed and talented staff foster close links between home and school and we know every child well, meaning that we are aware of any successes achieved or issues they are facing.

Our optional flexi and weekly boarding for our Prep children, promote independence.

Happy, confident – not arrogant young people, who can relate to and communicate with others – Dorset House children often win awards and scholarships to senior schools and regularly going on to hold positions of responsibility.

Prospective parents often comment on the warmth of this school and if that is something which is important to your family, please call to make an appointment to visit us.  We look forward to meeting you.

Information

We have been blown away by the warmth, devotion and dedication of your staff and you have all given our daughter the best possible start.

Parent

You are providing a wholesome and nurturing education that a lot of schools say they provide but the reality is not everyone can do it as well.

Parent

It’s Local, it’s outstanding in its facilities and teaching, it’s beautiful, and small enough to care…

…..the kids absolutely love the place and you get the feeling that the staff love working there. That’s golden.

The core values of DH are what most people want for their child. It’s a kind and gentle place…it encourages and nurtures, and your child is a valued member of the whole school

Everybody gets a go….and Art, Drama and music are given tremendous focus…

Parents reckon this is a school that really does empower

A group from Years 5 and 6 pupils have been learning about Greek Theatre in their Enrichment lesson and today, in the final Assembly before half term they gave a rehearsed reading to the rest of the prep.
With an introduction from the music of Queen’s ‘Killer Queen’ they told the story, in metered verse composed by Magistra, of the first in the Oresteian Trilogy, the Agamemnon.
A gory story, there are two deaths, a queen taking revenge upon her husband for the sacrifice of their daughter.
In the next half term we look forward to learning some lines and weaving in some music and movement in the true spirit of Greek theatre.
There’s more to come!
Our showjumpers had an excellent day @coombelands_equestrian where they were competing in an NSEA event. This was a huge event with over 200 children taking part and so we were thrilled with our team's results with 1st places in the 40cm and 50cm:

40cm
Team 1st: Maia, Archie, Ettie and Stirling
Team 5th: Milo, Ophelia, Flora and Isla
Individuals: Archie 5th, Milo 6th

50cm
Team 1st: Tiggy, Maia and Archie
Individual placings: Tiggy 2nd and Maia 6th

Here is a snap of the 50cm team with their rosettes.

Well done everyone - what great teamwork!
The 2024 - 2025 informal concert season has begun.
And what a great start!
Year 1 were super excited to be performing in the Barn for the first time and they were brilliant.
Every child had a line to themselves and as Mr Marconi pointed out, this is the first step on an eight year journey and by the time this group reach the top of the school, they will be playing instruments galore and tackling ambitious pieces of music.
But for now, who doesn't love a rousing version of Nicky, Nocky, Nacky, Noo?!
