WELCOME TO Dorset House School
PART OF THE LANCING COLLEGE FAMILY OF SCHOOLS
Welcome
At Dorset House, we aim to provide a magical prep school experience for our pupils in an environment where children are engaged, enthused and inspired. We are often described as a greenhouse not a hot house and we find that pupils grow in confidence in our high challenge/low threat atmosphere.
Our committed and talented staff foster close links between home and school and we know every child well, meaning that we are aware of any successes achieved or issues they are facing.
Our optional flexi and weekly boarding for our Prep children, promote independence.
Happy, confident – not arrogant young people, who can relate to and communicate with others – Dorset House children often win awards and scholarships to senior schools and regularly going on to hold positions of responsibility.
Prospective parents often comment on the warmth of this school and if that is something which is important to your family, please call to make an appointment to visit us. We look forward to meeting you.

What a show!
The Twinkly Nativity was fantastic.
For the encore, we were all on our feet dancing.
Well done to our Reception, Year 1 and 2 children - you were all brilliant!
Amid all the Christmas excitement, Mr Weaver took a different turn and directed his Year 6 class in an Ancient Greek alternative. (in true DH style, the children ran in from games and straight into this rehearsal.)
Here is Mr Weaver’s take on the performance.
As a Greek tragedy, Theseus and the Minotaur has it all - a rich tapestry of themes, structures and characters. This production by Year 6 kept the audience on the edge of their seats as they travelled the journey of Theseus, confidently played by Poppy Stevenson, to defeat the Minotaur in the labyrinth. Lily narrated the tale wonderfully, ensuring that we all knew what was going on and the cast of children entertained us with their observations. Sasha, as of one of the unfortunate tributes, rejoices in the prospect of Theseus marrying Ariadne, played by Leila “...well that’s wonderful news!” but later displays his displeasure on hearing that this union is retracted when she is abandoned on the island “..how disappointing”. The epic fight scene is played out dramatically with Wilfred’s Minotuar swishing his sword ferociously around the stage, to the sound of Eminem’s Lose Yourself. The story is about the misgivings of two Kings - Ageas, played by the brilliant Oliver, unable to prevent his son Theseus from taking on this challenge and Minos, portrayed Shakespearean like by the fantastic Atticus, who possesses the hungry beast. In the end the cast deliver a very factual, yet thoroughly entertaining performance of this masterpiece.
And so it begins...
Today, the school watched the Pre-Prep Nativity dress rehearsal and it was excellent!
We are all looking forward to the performance on Friday and of course, to the Christmas Concert in the Barn on Thursday evening.
Our next Open Morning will be in March 2026...
...but visitors are always welcome. Please call the school to arrange an appointment (01798 831456)
