Design and Technology

Whilst the making process is a large part of the DT curriculum, there is an emphasis on learning the whole design process. Pupils are given a Design Brief and encouraged to do some research – showing a variety of ideas, choosing a final idea doing some working drawings, making a model in cardboard before starting the practical piece.

The Design and Technology Department aims to:

  • Encourage pupils to solve design problems
  • Teach children to evaluate their work
  • Explore movement with pupils (through projects using hand and wind power, levers, pivots, linkages and cams)
  • Enable children to use a variety of basic hand tools and machinery
  • Emphasise the importance of safe working practices
